Remodel a Tennis Court in Norwich

A Fresh New Surface by Bingham Ground Services

When it comes to upgrading sports surfaces, precision, durability, and player experience are key. Bingham Ground Services recently delivered a standout project in Norwich, transforming an ageing tennis court into a versatile, safe, and professional-quality space.

Covering a 32m x 16m area, the work involved not just cosmetic improvements, but essential structural and safety enhancements to meet the demands of modern play.

The Project Brief

The client wanted to breathe new life into their court while maintaining high performance standards for tennis and other recreational activities. As experts in tennis court surfacing, we recognised that the surface needed more than a quick refresh, it required a full technical upgrade to improve play quality and extend the facility’s lifespan.

Preparation: The Foundation of Quality

The first step was a deep clean of the original court surface. This process removed built-up moss, dirt, and debris that could impact drainage and grip. We carried out minor levelling to ensure an even base, a crucial step for any sports facility, whether it’s a muga pitch, 3g football pitch, or artificial cricket pitches.

A smooth and level foundation doesn’t just improve gameplay; it’s vital for player safety and helps prevent premature wear.

Installing the New Sports Surface

Once the base was prepared, we installed a shock pad, a key safety feature that cushions impact and reduces the risk of injury.

The main surface chosen was an 18mm tufted 3g surface. Known for its durability and consistent performance, this type of surface is ideal for both tennis and other sports. It’s similar in composition to materials used for play surfacing, muga surface installations, and even padel vs tennis hybrid courts.

Additional Features for Enhanced Play

To complete the upgrade, we fitted a kick board along the court’s edge. This protects the perimeter from damage, provides a clean boundary, and enhances ball rebound during play. While the main purpose was to improve tennis play, the upgraded surface could also be adapted for other activities, making it comparable in versatility to multi use games areas and 3g football pitches.

Broader Applications and Expertise

Although this project focused on tennis, our expertise extends across a wide range of sports surfaces and recreational facilities, including:

  • Artificial cricket pitches for training and competition.
  • High-quality muga pitches for football, hockey, and netball.
  • Specialist tennis court surfacing and padel vs tennis court solutions.

We also regularly advise clients on what is a 3g pitch, ensuring they understand the benefits, maintenance requirements, and suitability for their specific needs.

The Result

The finished tennis court in Norwich is not only visually striking but offers a safe, high-performance playing surface that will stand the test of time. Players now benefit from better traction, improved shock absorption, and a consistent ball bounce, all essential factors for enjoyable and competitive play.
