East Markham Primary School MUGA Installation
Throughout this project, we maintained close collaboration with the East Markham Primary School from the initial site visit through to the project’s completion. Our involvement extended to assisting with the planning permission application to ensure the school received an ideal sports and play surface. To minimise disruptions, we agreed that all work would be conducted during school holidays.
The completed area is a 30m x 15m kick-about surface, primarily designed for football but also suitable for other sports such as netball as needed. This versatile play surface features a sand-filled, needle-punch design with an 8-year warranty. Initially, the sand sits on top of the surface but gradually integrates into the pile with use, giving the surface a green appearance. The sand not only enhances the longevity of the pile by protecting it but also requires less maintenance compared to rubber 3G surfaces.
To address a recurring issue the school had with moles, we installed mole barriers around the pitch, effectively preventing them from burrowing underneath. Upon completion, we provided the school with a comprehensive maintenance pack for the Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA). This pack includes detailed guidelines to ensure the surface remains in excellent condition for many years.
The sports surface offers several advantages. As the sand settles into the pile, it enhances the durability of the surface, making it a more cost-effective and low-maintenance option over time. While some maintenance is required to keep the surface in optimal condition, it is significantly less demanding than maintaining a rubber 3G surface. The maintenance pack provided includes all necessary information and best practices for upkeep, ensuring the school can manage the surface effectively.
In conclusion, our collaboration with the school throughout this project ensured a smooth process from planning to completion. By scheduling work during holidays, we minimised disruptions to the school’s routine. The 30m x 15m kick-about sports surface, designed primarily for football and adaptable for other sports, was created with a durable, sand-filled, needle-punch surface that promises long-lasting use. With the installation of mole barriers and the provision of a detailed maintenance pack, we have equipped the school with a high-quality, low-maintenance sports area that will serve students well for many years to come.
